Meeting Chile’s emblematic red.
Another French grape that, like Malbec, had a rebirth in South America: Carmenere is Chile‘s signature red varietal.
The variety was taken to Chile in the 1800s but was confused for Merlot for two hundred years until in the mid 90s it was recognized as its own distinct variety and since then has boomed becoming the icon wine for Chilean wineries. Although now rarely grown in the Old World, it is widely planted in Chile and has created a strong identity as a unusual, spicy, medium to full bodied red wine.
