Corney & Barrow, one of the oldest and most established independent Wine Merchants in the UK, has recently moved into their new Hong Kong office in Central. Edward Bland Corney opened the original Corney & Barrow shop in 1780 on Old Broad Street, London. A privately owned family business, Corney & Barrow have sales offices in London, Edinburgh and Northumberland in the UK and they entered the Hong Kong market late last year.

The new Corney & Barrow Hong Kong office is centrally located at 9 Queen’s Road, Central and is fitted with a tasting room with an amazing view of the city.

Corney & Barrow, who currently holds Royal Warrants for supply to Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Charles, has had a Sales Manager in Hong Kong for over a year and has been selling wine from the UK to Hong Kong collectors for over 20 years. The company sells fine wine on the primary and secondary market, and has regular shipments out to Hong Kong.

What’s interesting to wine lovers and collectors is that Corney & Barrow is also the exclusive representative for highly acclaimed wine producers like Tertre Roteboeuf and François Mitjavile (Bordeaux), cult wine producers like Dominio de Pingus (Spain), Tenuta di Trinoro (Italy) and other fantastic producers.

After the success of their first Annual Tasting in Hong Kong last Autumn 2009 which was so popular it was over-subscribed, Corney & Barrow is planning what promises to be an even bigger and more exciting tasting event on Friday, November 12th, at the Grand Hyatt. Oliver Hartley, Sales Director of Corney & Barrow, and others from the UK offices will be in town to meet customers at this event.

For more information on Corney & Barrow and, if you are interested to get advanced tickets for this event, please call Cecily Chambers at 2537 3325 or email her at cecily.chambers@corneyandbarrow.com

Fine wine and fine spirits can mix well in certain circumstances.

Japanese whiskey, brandy, spirits, liquors and brews as well as every-other-type-of-beverage-you-can-think-of company, Suntory Holdings, has purchased an 80% stake in Hong Kong’s ASC Fine Wines Holdings. Though no details of the deal have been made public, analysts estimate the transaction at US$55 million.

ASC has been a presence in Hong Kong since 1996, offering bottles from one hundred different wineries. Some of the best brands can be purchased through ASC, including vintages from Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Gaja and Joseph Phelps.

ASC was in the market to sell and searched for an appropriate partnership for about six months before the deal was made with Suntory. Based in Japan, Suntory offers distribution networks and holdings all over the globe, as well as owning wineries in France.
