Last week’s event has set new records for wine shows in Hong Kong.

It can be said that the HKTDC knows how to put on a show, and the conclusion on Friday night of the 2009 Hong Kong Wine and Spirts Fair was no exception.

Over 520 exhibitors were counted from 34 countries and over 12,000 attendees (a 36% increase over last year’s debut fair) from all over the world were at the fair.

Besides huge booths for the biggest wine producing countries we saw abalone pairings, Hello Kitty wine, packed sake booths, giant magnums being sold off in the last hours of the fair, wine from Thailand and India (who knew), invitation to many new wine bars and restaurants and a general happy feeling that the wine market in Hong Kong is definitely growing at an unbelievable size.

The 2009 Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair kicked off to a grand start yesterday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.

As we’ve reported, over 500 booths opened their doors and uncorked their wines for a 3-day tour de force and we were very impressed with the quality of the exhibitors and the number of attendees who showed up for the first day.

With France as the show’s Partner Country, you can try numerous quality and premium French wines from different regions including Burgundy, St. Emilion, Alsace, Bordeaux and Lyon.

Also enhancing the international flavour of the show are exhibitors from Argentina, Australia, Chile, the Chinese mainland, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Moldova, New Zealand, Portugal, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, the United States, Uruguay and more.
