The Dutch: New Wine Shop in Sheung Wan

New wine store on the block.

Entrepreneurs Dirk Jasper and Nick Pauli decided to bring Dutch cheese and South African wines to Hong Kong.  And that they did with The Dutch – a store that imports wines exclusively from the South-African Cape region that are carefully handpicked by Dirk and Nick.

This is an interesting store that sells only cheese and wines. All their wines carries their own label – The Dutch. We tried the Pinotage 2009 and was pleasantly surprise about how easy it was to drink. Wines cost HK$98 per bottle and is a pretty good deal for the quality. The medium-bodied dry red wine in ruby red has notes of ripe plums, currant and spice. The tannins are structure and soft with round and elegant palate with toasty oak and hints of chocolate.

Wines available at The Dutch:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
  • Merlot 2010
  • Chenin Blanc 2010
  • Shiraz 2009

Where to buy?

  • 232 Queen’s Road, Central, Hong Kong.
