The fair is back bigger than ever!

The Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair kicked off yesterday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC); with a record 934 exhibitors from some 37 countries and regions taking. The fair is now Asia’s biggest wine show in exhibitor numbers.
Opening the fair was Professor The Honourable K C Chan, SBS, JP, Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury, The Government of the HKSAR. To help him with a ribbon cutting was Alessandra Schiavo, the Consulate General of Italy, this year’s wine fair Partner Country. After the ribbon cutting the VIP guest from both Hong Kong and Italy made their way up to the VinItaly Pavilion for a mini event kickoff that featured Kindergartners dressed as little chefs.

The commemorative wine celebrating 150 years of Italian Unification.

UNA was presented today for the first and only time at the Hong Kong Wine Fair so Winebuzz was there to taste it and tell you all about it!
Created to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Italian Unification, UNA is meant to represent the unity of Italy. The idea, pioneered by Vinitaly, was to create two wines, a red and a white, by blending 20 autochthonous grape varieties from each region of Italy.

A massive turn out for the Italian wine and food night at Zelo.

We’ve been busy co-organizing this event all month long – and the Vinitaly Wine Affair turned out to be the (wine) love affair Hong Kong has been waiting for.
Held last night at Zelo in Pacific Place Mall, we used it a sneak preview for Vinitaly to show off their wines before today’s big trade event the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair – brought out all over 100 wines to taste from Italy’s biggest wine producers and taste not only the best cheeses and hams but amazing food prepared by the top Michelin-starred chefs Luca Collami, Pietro Rongoni, Marco Sacco and Sergio Vineis.

Last night brought out the sweet wines to TST.

Sweet Bordeaux had a succesful tasting at Hullet House last night in Tsim Sha Tsui where many producers came out to showcase the sweet side of Bordeaux.
Separated into 2 sessions so that everyone could get a chance to taste before and after dinner – it seemed that the early session decided not to leave and the later session got so packed it spilled out into the beautiful Hullet House courtyard.
