Oldest drinkable champagne discovered at the bottom of the sea.

Divers exploring a shipwreck in the Baltic Sea have found bottles of the oldest drinkable champagne in the world. Said to be made in the 18th century, diver Christian Ekstrom told Reuters that they had discovered bottles of unmarked champagne at the shipwreck in the Baltic Sea near the Aland Islands between Sweden and Finland. The ship was speculated to be sailing to St.Petersburg when it went down. Not knowing what the bottle contained, Ekstrom said the divers popped the cork and tasted the champagne. “It tasted fantastic. It was a very sweet champagne, with a tobacco taste and oak,” Ekstrom said.

Second wine is the term for second label wine not selected for use in the Gran Vin or first label. Though the wine is from the same winemaker, same vineyard and has gone through similar blending and processes, they’re offered at 50-70% of the price of first label.

Winebuzz caught up with makers of fine Riesling winemaker, Johannes Selbach of Weingut Selbach-Oster. Johannes Selbach’s family have been producing wine for 410 years.
The Selbach-Oster vineyards are located on some of the best vineyard land in the heart of the Mosel wine country called ” Mittelmosel” (145 minutes due west of Frankfurt) where Reisling are grown on 20 hectares of steep, south-facing mountain slopes facing the Mosel River. The wine is produced completely by hand and varies from very dry to very sweet.
