Series of Burgundy tastings from Berry Bros & Rudd in June.

Berry Bros & Rudd is putting together a series of tastings in June featuring a handful of renowned Burgundy producers. These unique tastings hope to showcase the qualities and characters of new and old vintages, and to explore the expression of the Montille wines from famous areas of Burgundy such as St. Aubin, Meursault Volnay, Nuits St Georges, Chambolle Musigny and Beaune. The event schedule includes:
- 18 June 2009, Lunch with Mr.Etienne de Montille at the China Club
- 18 June 2009, Burgundy wine from Domaine de Montille at Bo Innovation
- 19 June 2009, Masterclass on Burgundy wines from de Montille Stable

Winner of the Gold and Bronze Medal for Syrah Around the World.

Bridge PA Vineyards is a single estate boutique wine producer owned by Stephen and Lisa Daysh. Since 1995, they are New Zealand’s only wine producer 100% devoted to Syrah, making a name for themselves by producing fledging varieties of Syrah in small quantities.
Their excellent Syrah has won not one but 2 awards at the recent Wine Challenge at HOFEX 2009. The Reserve Syrah, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand 2007 won the Gold Medal for Shiraz Around the World and their Bridge PA Vineyard Ltd, Louis Syrah, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand 2006 took home the Bronze medal.

Adelaide’s Award Winning Moscato.

The Lake Breeze Moscato 2008 is a delicious and refreshing sparking wine with heady grapey bouquet that has hints of orange blossom. A light wine with a clean finish, its fresh and great as an aperitif especially after a seafood meal with dessert. Made from grapes which are harvested from 35 year old White Frontignac vines, this moscato is a great light wine with 7% alcohol with has a intense aroma and is not too sweet.
The LakeBreeze Moscato 2008 won the Silver Medal at the 2009 Hong Kong International Wine Challenge April 09 for pairing with Shanghai food.

Wine tasting tips from Pierre Legrandois.

Chief Sommelier at the Mandarin Oriental, Pierre Legrandois gives us some tips about appreciating wine at the recent workshop organized by Hong Kong Land’s Boutique Boulevard: So Chic, So Central program.
Pierre’s wine tasting tips;
1. Look at the wine, especially around the edges. Tilt the glass to see the way the colour changes from the center to the edges. Look for the colour of the wine and clarity. White wines become darker as they age and time causes red wines to lose their colour turning more brownish with small amount of dark red sediment at the bottom of the glass.
2. Swirl the wine in your glass. This allow oxygen into the wine and opens up its aromas.
