monowai_winebuzz

Monowai Vineyards won 2 Awards at the Hong Kong Wine Challenge at the recent HOFEX. A Bronze Medal for their Merlot and a Silver Medal for their Sauvignon Blanc for Wine Pairing with Cantonese Cuisine.

Monowai Vineyard has a philosophy of wine making that emphasizes purity of flavor and avoids excessive intervention. They specialize in cool climate styles, producing a range of wines limited to singe varietals, all them well suited to the distinctive climate and soils of Hawkes Bay’s Crownthorpe district.

Tasting note -Monowai Estate, Merlot, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand 2006
Deep crimson red in color, this merlot has rich blackberry and dark cherry aromas with just a hint of earthy spice and vanilla from French and American oak barrels. Silky tannins allow for a long smooth finish. This wine pairs wonderfully with hearty meat dishes such as lamb roasts or prime beef steak.

Tasting note - Monowai Estate Ltd. Sauvignon Blanc Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand 2008
Don’t let its clear, light-gold color fool you, this wine has intense aromas: gooseberry, passion fruit, white peach and lime zest gives it a refreshing citrus flair, adding complexity and length. This Sauvignon Blanc is full-bodied and has a rich palate, perfect for creamy seafood pastas or the rich flavors of Cantonese seafood dishes.
