Zachys Hong Kong auction features rare Bordeaux collection.

Zachys returned to Hong Kong for its second auction in the city last Saturday, April 25. The auction reached a staggering sales total of HK$32 million and featured over 760 lots of the world’s finest and rarest wines, including the best of Bordeaux and Burgundy.
Zachys President Jeff Zacharia commented, “We are thrilled to return to Hong Kong for our second auction. There is no doubt in my mind that Asia is emerging as one of the most important wine markets in the world and that Hong Kong is certainly the hub of all of this excitement.”

Wine course for wine enthusiasts and professionals.

For those looking to join the wine and spirit trade, or even wine enthusiasts who wish to acquire more advanced knowledge of wine, the Hong Kong Open University now offers a “Foundation Course in Wine Tasting” course.
Operated in collaboration with Concord Institute of Wine, the course teaches a basic understanding of wine by styles; the service of wines; how to prepare a portfolio of tasting notes as well as knowledge of matching food and wine. Tuition is HK$1,400 for 6 lecture hours, next round of classes will begin July 18, 2009.

A wet but fun Bordeaux Wine Fair at the Jockey Club in Hong Kong.

At the Everyday Bordeaux Wine Fair held Saturday, April 25, hundreds of food and beverage professionals mixed with wine lovers to sample some of the highest quality mid-priced Bordeaux wine in Hong Kong. In spite of the Amber rain warning outside, there was a real buzz of excitement as people went from table to table to discover the best that Bordeaux has to offer.
Great wines are not necessarily found at exorbitant prices and at prices ranging from HK$70 – HK$350 for red, white & rosé and up to HK$450 for sweet white, it was a delight to find so many great tasting Bordeaux at the fair.
A buyers guide of Bordeaux wine - the Everyday Bordeaux Booklet 2009 was launched at the fair. The buyers guide contain detailed information on the top 100 highest quality Bordeaux wines that are being distributed in Hong Kong. The guide contains tasting notes, grape varieties, appellation and retail price and name of distributor/wine importer. Read more
